Crude Palm Oil and Palm Kernel Oil constitute the company's main business line. Palm kernel products referred to as Palm Kernel Oil and Palm Kernel Cake are produced in the company's kernel crushing unit. Palm Kernel Cake (PKC) is a by-product from crushing and expelling of oil from Palm Kernel (PK) via a mechanical process. Palm Oil mill generates a substantial amount of solid bio-mass like palm fibre, palm shell, empty bunches and shell fibres.
Power is generated from the residue and remnants of Palm Oil seed.
To provide best quality saplings to farmers, seven Oil Palm nurseries have been maintained in six operating states with a capacity to produce one million seedlings/annum. Germinated Oil Palm seeds of elite varieties procured from within and outside the country are propagated in the nurseries and standard/certified seedlings, after attaining the age of 12 months or more, are supplied to the farmers at subsidised price for plantation in their fields.
Under the ISOPOM and OPAE/RKVY schemes of Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, input subsidies in kind like Urea, Single Superphosphate, Muriate of Potash, Boron and Magnesium Sulphate are distributed to the farmers through fertiliser depots operated by the company in Yernagudem and Nallajerla, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, thereby ensuring timely application of various nutrients to the plantations.
Considering the huge demand-supply gap for 'tenera hybrid' seeds and the high cost of importing them from international seed companies, arrangements are in the pipeline to establish an Oil Palm seed garden in Dhenkanal District, Orissa in technical collaboration with breeders from India and abroad. A germplasm bank of parental materials of diverse genetic origins would be established to breed commercial varieties with higher productivity and oil content, slower vertical growth and other desirable features. The hybrids developed will cater to the needs of the farmers in the company's project areas besides supplying premium seeds to external customers.
A modern Soil, Leaf and Water Analysis Laboratory has been established in Yernagudem, Andhra Pradesh, to promote scientific nutrient management practices in Oil Palm plantations in the company's project areas. The laboratory has also got a facility to manufacture Trichoderma Viride, a bio-fungicide.
